What is this blog about?

I have been preparing to facilitate a course for people who are in poverty to help them recognize and develop their resources. The course is called Getting Ahead In a Just-Gettin'-By World or GA for short. It was developed by Phil DeVol by utilizing Ruby Payne, Ph.D's framework for understanding poverty. I anticipate this to be an enriching project for myself and the participants, so I wanted to document and share my experience.

Final Session

It didn't feel like the final session today, other than Tony explaining more about the ally/mentorship plans.  It's so wonderful that each investigator will have a team of four allies/mentors after they graduate from Getting Ahead.

Tonight we discussed how the community could help end poverty.  Interestingly, there is an agency in San Antonio called Haven for Hope, which is designed as a "one-stop shop" for people in poverty... they provide many services, including shelter, Workforce and mental health services  The investigators think there should be a place like that in CC.  I totally agree, but currently those resources are available, just not under one roof.

I can't believe we have completed 15 sessions... it seems like it went by so fast.  I'm so proud of the investigators and I hope they meet the goals they have set for themselves.
