What is this blog about?

I have been preparing to facilitate a course for people who are in poverty to help them recognize and develop their resources. The course is called Getting Ahead In a Just-Gettin'-By World or GA for short. It was developed by Phil DeVol by utilizing Ruby Payne, Ph.D's framework for understanding poverty. I anticipate this to be an enriching project for myself and the participants, so I wanted to document and share my experience.

Graduation Dinner

On Saturday night we honored the graduates again by having dinner at the Outback.  It was a smaller crowd than the ceremony at Amistad and Ruby was able to join us.  I think the investigators really enjoyed meeting her and even getting her signature in their Bridges book.  The investigators had the opportunity to bring a guest, so I got to meet some family members.  There was an abundance of food and conversation.

The graduates will start working with their allies in January, so we will probably continue to meet once a week at the mission for support.  This has been such a unique and rewarding experience for me and I'm glad I did it.
